Much like a Zen Koan, the natural world is full of confounding, and seemingly unanswerable questions. A visual koan distilled from time out of doors presents many of the same challenges as a traditional written koan. In the Buddhist tradition the path to understanding must pass through what is known as the Gateless Gate. A concept manifesting as a blocked entrance with no true physical barrier outside of that which has been unknowingly constructed in the mind. It is only after one follows intuition and dismisses rational thought that any semblance of insight can occur. The photographic bent light koan welcomes a similar letting go, as one enters into the gateless gate.
